Factors to consider while installing New Roofs

As a homeowner, when you are exploring what type of Roof Installation you want to go for, there is a lot to think. Whether you’re pondering a roof for a new home, an existing roof repair or a roof replacement, determine the roofing tiles and design as the first step. Work with professional contractor to understand your roofing options and finding the best fit. It is a good idea to get familiar with some of the factors to consider before a new Roof Installation:

1. Roof Slope: Many roof replacement projects involve stripping the roof down to the roof deck and keeping the structure of the roof top intact. Unless you are mulling on having your roof structure rebuilt, the existing slope has most of the work cut out for you. most materials work best in certain slopes. Just to say, if your existing roof features a steep slope, then an asphalt shingle or metal would be the ideal option. Conversely, a flat roof will narrow your choice to membrane, enhanced bitumen, or a traditional built-up roofing.

2. Roofing Contractor License: Selecting the right contractor is important. Besides doing the actual installation work, a roofer will make sure that the all aspects of your roof replacement project I,e. planning, design, permits – all are taken care of. There are several aspects that should be taken into consideration when choosing your roofing contractor, but the most important is the working license. A licensed roofing contractor is always okay while providing valid license information, verifiable with the State regulatory body.

3. Weight vs Roofing Structure: The existing structure must be able to support the new roofing material. If you are thinking switching to heavier material like slate or tile, then your roofing contractor should check if it can support the additional weight. Altering the roof structure will likely increase the cost of your roof replacement.

4. Life Cycle Cost: The life cycle cost is basically the accumulated cost of installation, repair and maintenance over its lifespan. The longer a roof’s lifespan, the lower is the cost. Most homeowners balk at the upfront cost of roofing systems like tile, which is durable and has low maintenance requirements, it actually has a lower life cycle cost when compared to asphalt shingles. This can be an important factor if you intend to keep your home for the long term.
